The
YFL began operations in the summer of 2006, but
the planning began in the fall of 2005. The
concept of starting a new league came from a
desire to build an organization that carried out
its goals and objectives in a professional
manner with the intent to keep its focus on the
youth in the communities in which we serve.
In
early November 2005, Tony Walter, President of the
Jaguars approached Ed Hart, a coach within the
organization with the idea to start a new
league, and discussions began on how to get
things started. After several "opportunities"
and challenges, the inaugural year of
competition within the new league is considered
to be very successful.

The charter members
of the YFL include: |
North Houston Steelers
Aldine Falcons
HASA Raiders
North Houston Vikings |
North Houston Broncos
Sportsmaster Seahawks
North Houston County Cowboys
North Houston Jaguars |
|
Note:
The Sweetwater Patriots (now known
as the Spring Patriots) were members
until early October when they were
suspended for violations of League
rules and mandates, refusing to
provide insurance to its
participants, and the usage of
illegal players.
Note: The
North Houston Vikings joined the
League late in the summer, and
maintained participation in league
functions even though they were not
able to field a team. |
For
the first two seasons, the Raiders and Jaguars
were the dominant teams of the league. In 2008,
the Renegades, Chargers, and Jets joined the
League and added a new dimension to the
competition level in the League.
Every
season since the inaugural year has seen an
increase in the number of YFL participants. In
2009, the League more than doubled from the
previous year, making the YFL a powerhouse
league for competition.
In
2010, the YFL once again doubled in size from
the previous year. The YFL calls itself the
Major League of Youth Football, but the League
can back it up on the field with several teams
that can compete on a national stage, and
several developing teams that will be a force to
reckon with in the near future.
